CANDID CHILDREN'S PHOTOGRAPHY How to avoid shadows and get that lovely sparkle in the eyes. Photo courses . |

Something to try next time when you are taking a close-up portrait of your child. The photo above was quickly taken as I called out her name and she looked directly at me. The backlit photo looks quite nice, but I thought I could improve, by using a white reflector, ( a white piece of styro-foam , 80 by 50 cm will also work its magic) , to reflect the sunlight coming from behind. This evened out the shadows in her face, lightened up the slight bags under her eyes and made her right ear look less transparent. i could open the aperture a little more which resulted in a less distracting background. Plus the reflection of the styro-foam enhanced the parkles in her eyes. |
